About me

I trained as a classical harpist both in Colombia and England, and was involved with music for over 15 years. In 1998, I started to explore touch and other healing techniques to overcome illness. My search for self-healing led me to try different disciplines which not only helped me restore my health but made me passionate about sharing what I had learned with others.

I now practise traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture and I am also qualified in Therapeutic Massage and Reiki Healing. Since 2000, I have worked as a therapist with victims of domestic violence, terminally ill patients, cancer patients, and with people trying to overcome addictions as well as treating a variety of common ailments in clinics in Bristol and London. I have done additional training in ear acupuncture, which is an essential tool during the drug, alcohol and tobacco detoxification process; and also hold a certificate in working with people with cancer from the Bristol Cancer Help Centre. I have just been awarded an MSc with merit by the University of East London for a research project using Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of M.E.

How I work

Having suffered from ill health myself over a number of years, I empathise with every single person I treat. I will listen compassionately and combine my knowledge and experience with my intuition to develop the best treatment plan for each person. I tend to use all the skills I consider necessary to achieve the best results. You may have an acupuncture treatment that also involves Reiki or massage; or both, or you may be offered herbs if your condition is chronic or deep-seated. I also consider diet, relaxation and emotional balance integral parts of the healing process and always include them in the treatment plan. In my view, illness can become a unique opportunity for learning and growth, in which treatment can be the catalyst for true life changes and healing.

I am a member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ATCM), the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM) and the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). I have worked in the community giving massage and acupuncture at women’s refuges in London and Bristol; and at St Peter’s Hospice and the CAAAD project for alcohol and drug detoxification in Bristol. I have also worked at private clinics in both London and Bristol.

Update on the statutory regulation of herbal medicines Although we are all happy that last year the government finally opted for the statutory regulation of both Western and Chinese herbalists, it seems that this is not going to happen as quickly as we hoped. The initial date we were given for the opening of the new register of practitioners was
April 2012. The new date is now Autumn 2013. Still, we did get what we wanted thanks to all the efforts that both practitioners and members of the public put into stopping the banning of herbal remedies.

BUT, let's not forget that in April last year the European directive concerning herbal medicines came into force in the UK, and as a result we have lost many herbs and formulae that may not be restored when our statutory regulation comes into force. This is important not only for practitioners but for everyone who benefits from alternative remedies as continued restrictions will affect your choice and the effectiveness of your treatments. So we cannot sit back and relax now, we need to carry on letting the govenment know that we want to have choice and we want to have all our herbal remedies back next year!
